Man in my early 40's, I grew up in very very close proxmity to a great course, never gave the game any thought at all as a young lad. Probably only swung a golf club 5 times from 16 to early 30's.
Got playing again in late 30's and over the last 4 years I have started playing a good bit more each year, I had lots of different interests , playing music..GAA..and lots of tech stuff.., They have taken a back seat..and all my spare thoughts are geared towards golf .
I honestly plan my weeks..months...around it, I read golf books, and I am interested in every facet of the game..nostalgia etc etc.
I honestly hope it lasts forever, because when everything else is ****..theres always golf :-)

Some of the things I've done for a game..I could not mention here...

Well you are in the right place.

They are all golf nuts on here, in fact they even drive each other nuts over golf.

Great user name, from book ?

Aye, thanks, it is from the book, a great book.

Just finishing Ben Hogans..an american life.. a great read, he is just recovering after the crash..and walking a few miles every day trying to ge some power back in to his legs.

Don't worry after a year of boards you'll feel worse.

Only joking, lads on here are class with tips and how to get lower.

But we all get to an end point.
    Enjoy.

    Welcome to the madhouse!!

As fix says above there is no shortage of golf nuts & opinions on here. You'll need a strong constitution to put up with a lot of what you'll come across on here, but on the whole I think we're a decent bunch.

    Best of luck with it

Agreed, a good bunch, and welcome. As a follow on to the Hogan book, I'd recommend The Longest Shot by Neil Sagebiel. Hogan plays second fiddle, but it's a story that pits Ben against Jack Fleck in the US Open. What Hogan achieved after that crash is incredible.

For those who've never seen the car (hit by a bus):

Yep! Entertaining stuff - certainly gets across John's obsession. From a reader's point of view it all feels like banging at nails with the wrong hammer... it doesn't work... it doesn't work... and then something clicks. He certainly tried every avenue to improve his game.

It's being made into a movie, too.

been a while since I read it so I must dig it out again.

be interesting to see how the movie works out. Sam gets to play himself by the looks of it :)

Yeah, a nice read, and one I think a lot of amateur golfers can associate with.

Could make for some funny on screen moments of a man arguing with an imaginary Seve, but surprised to see someone would actually make a movie of it.
