perculation area!

Have been issued a letter from planning office the do walk around survey saying that proposed build is very close to existing perculation area. Question is, do they actually expect us to dig up the p area in order to confirm the exact measurements? Have a landscaped garden over it and would hate to have to dig it up.

There is a reason for separation distances between dwellings and percolation areas. If the distances aren't maintained with the proposed extension then, you have two options available to you. either move the percolation area or redesign the proposed build to achieve/maintain the required separation distances. So to answer your question yes you could be expected to move your percolation area
