A few months ago, Google announced Gigabit internet for Austin - followed last night by a similar announcement from AT&T. Google charge USD 70 (EUR 51) a month for 1000 MB/sec, and AT&T plan to match this price.

The new UHD TV sets (4K) require so much bandwidth that a mult-channel service would have to be delivered by fiber. Netflix is trialling UHD movies on demand - something that the cable and satellite operators can't roll out. Nor can DTT.

It is far cheaper to convert the entire phone / tv / internet plumbing to fibre (ideally shared to provide competition and spread the capital cost) rather than running multiple "competing" networks (copper, coax, satellite etc). Fibre is low maintenance and does not have distance restrictions like DSL, VDSL and coax. Fiber is a no brainer in the 21st century.
