Why do DARTs wait so long at platforms?

I only travel between Connolly and Clontard Road but at both of these stops the driver activates the doors, everyone alights/boards, and then he sits there for a good 45 seconds (sometimes longer) with the doors open?

Drives me crazy, why can't they just open/close and get moving again?

Hardly travelling across the network with plenty of experience!

Well most DARTs are booked to stop at Connolly for 1 minute. Northbound at Clontarf in the morning there are usually a lot of passengers getting off. Also there is sometimes a bit of padding (extra time allowed) for that section in case a driver has to change at the depot.

Southbound, often a DART will get held at Clontarf Rd because of conflicting movements ahead in the Connolly area.

The DART is run to a timetable and must wait for its specified time at each station. However in general this is usually less than 30 seconds.
