LinkedIn- changing a profile to a group

Is there anyway that I would be able to change a profile to a group on LinkedIn without losing all of the connections or creating a separate group? The profile was created (as a group profile) before there was an option to create a group.

According to LinkedIn the profile needs to become a 'person' to adhere by the LinkedIn transparency rules and then a separate group must be created, however there are over 7,000 connections to our page who will have to re-connect to the group. It would be brilliant to not have to go down the route of sending a mass email asking our connections to re-connect with new group.

Has anyone come up against this problem before?

That isn't possible as far as I'm aware. You should be able to 'invite' people to that group from your personal profile though
