The Library Management System (LMS) that provides the Library’s catalogue and book circulation, cataloguing systems etc. requires a server and software upgrade. Work on the upgrade has commenced and will continue over the coming months. The upgrade will restore the stability of the LMS and minimise the risk of future service interruptions to the library catalogue and other circulation services. The LMS upgrade will also provide us with the opportunity to implement new and improved functionality and services.
Planning for the upgrade project has been underway for a number of months in conjunction with our colleagues in IS Services and the LMS provider, Innovative Interfaces Inc. The upgrade will happen in a number of phases over the coming weeks, and will require some periods of system downtime.

There will be a complete system downtime of 24 hours between 12 midday on Tuesday 1st October and 12 midday on Wednesday 2nd October 2013, and a second minor system downtime of six hours commencing 8.00pm on Thursday 3rd October, resulting in the temporary suspension of some services.
We strongly encourage staff and students to ensure they borrow materials and access stack materials in advance of the downtime periods.
    Services Suspended During Downtime:
While we are doing everything we can to minimise service interruptions for readers, some services have to be suspended during the 24 hour period including:

All circulation services; access to library accounts; stack requests (online and call slips); Fastlane services (self-service machines)
Please note: Stack Requests received by 9.00am on Monday 30th September, will be available for collection until 7.45pm on that day.

    Services Available During Downtime:
To mitigate the impact on readers a number of services will be available during the 24 hour downtime period, including:

Stella Search will be available (but ‘at risk’)
Counter Reserve material may be borrowed for library use only.
Books can be returned to the Book Return boxes provided or at library counters.

While the disruption is very inconvenient, the work is essential and will allow the Library to maintain, and improve services for the next academic year.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the downtime period has been extended. The following services will continue to be affected all day Wednesday 2nd October:
    • All circulation services, including Fast Lane
    • Stack Requests
    • Access to library accounts

Unfortunately, Stella Search has also been affected. While Stella is down, the locations of books and journals can be found using the COPAC catalogue. Search within the results presented on that screen, and when you find the item for which you are searching, click “Trinity College Dublin” under the “Held at” section to the right. This is not real-time, so we can’t tell you if the item is currently on the shelves or has been borrowed.

Databases and e-books can be accessed via the direct links listed here, and e-journals found via the direct link here.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the downtime and want to reassure readers that these issues are being addressed as a matter of urgency.
