My two brothers are with Sky and are paying monthly fees for the basic channels. My question is can they cancel Sky and use the dish to get the basic channels for free legally? I mean the freeview English channels and the Irish ones (Saorview?).

Last time I looked (years ago) there were (legal) combo boxes...

I've never had a sat dish myself so I'm very very fuzzy on it and they're asking me for advice!

They can use their existing dish to get all the free Uk channels but they will need a small aerial to also receive RTE. This is all legal and above board.

Just bear in mind that the channels on the basic sky pack that are pay channels will not be received .

If they take out the Sky card from their Sky boxes they will see which free channels remain after they cancel their subscription.

Can any of their existing TVs display the Saorview channels without buying another box?

Tony is probably not allowed to advertise his own site but he sells the combi boxes - http://satellite.ie/acatalog/index.html
