Well the first suck calf sale was on saturday and an absolute flyer. Trade was best for Charolais of any colour, limmys were back a bit and bb's were below them again.
Plenty of heifers 350kg making £600 over their weight, bullocks around the 400kg mark making between £1000-£1400 for char, limo bullocks between £800 - £1200 and blues from £800-£1050 all for similar weights.
In fairness the first sale is always madness the sale started at 11am and the first guy in the Q was there from 1.30 in the morning. Don't think those animals would be looking there best by the time they get through the ring.
Don't know how anyone can expect to get a margin on those prices, as i doubt if beef will fetch £4kg next year and a seasons feeding to go into them:confused:

yes we have telephone booking (or lucky dip as some fellas call it)
    sorry that was badly phrased,
i was implying to Antrim that having to Q must be hardship for them

there was a new mart opened today in Markethill and two new marts that have opened (replaced existing marts in towns) locally in the last five years - all bells and whistles and none of them ever considered the idea of a telephone or online booking system. the ironic thing is you still could still be the first in the Q and not be in the ring first. a draw is made for the first fifty lots for all of the bigger sales - suckled calf, stores, fat lambs. So if they draw out number 30 they sell from lot 30 back to lot 1 and then start selling the rest from lot 31 to finish.
