So the deadline has come and gone.

    And H2ff didn't do a thing. (I'm sure I'm the only one)
so now the tractor (born in 1978) has not been taxed since about 1998.

Am I right in the following:
If I want to tax it from 01Jan14, I have to pay the arrears, and no Garda letter will get around those arrears. is this correct?

Depends, is your name on the tax book? if not then its probebly under the old fellas name (or anyone else) if so then sell the tractor to yourself and you are then only liable for the tax from the day you own it.

ring the tax office and you may have to bring it to a local nct centre to get declared, costs 200 euro.

Won't have to bring a combine to the NCT centre as it will be heavier than the current exemption which is I think 5t.
