That link says it's north of the monument, but I can't see anything suitable there on Google Maps. There's a likely looking building south of the monument (can't get that good a view of it from Streetview as there are trees in the way), and on the Historic maps on osi.ie it's shown as being called Ballyellis House.

See here for some info others have found ...

Thank you, spent a long time looking for that and couldn't find it..

Now to find out why it was derelict in 1914:)

So the first link is presumably the ruin of the farm buildings attached to the now demolished Ballyellis House.

Looks like that, the outbuildings are pretty substantial in their own right. Will post back here when I'm talking to someone down that way that knows some more history:)

I think that's it. If you look carefully at the footprint of the building on the historic OSi map, and compare it to what you can now see on the aerial imagery on Google Maps, what remains can only be the outbuildings.

Also if you look carefully at the b&w photo on the flickr page I linked to, you can see a step in the roofline of the outbuildings, which is also clearly visible on the modern day photo on Wicklowandy's original post. The house proper would have been attached to the left of the buildings as shown on that photo.

In all probability this house was destroyed during 1798.
The battles of Ballyellis, Ballyraheen and Carnew resulted in a swathe of burned out houses in this area as the rebels made their way to the Whiteheaps.
Something about this house reminds me of the assault on Captain Chamney's house.

Surely '98 would be a bit early?? The photo is undated but maybe end 1800s/ early 1900s? Don't think there were too many cameras around in '98 :)

Unless you're implying the photo is of a house burned in 1798? Hardly be in this condition 100 years later..
