    Lads. I've only started watching Dexter in the last couple of weeks upon recommendation.

    I've watched the first season and am not completely convinced. Is it worth persisting?

    Seasons 1 and 2 are incredibly good. Season 3 took a serious dip, but its worth persisting as Season 4 is, by a large margin, the best of them all. Seasons 5 and 6 were bearable simply based upon a love for both the show and the characters, while Season 7 was an unexpected return to form. Alas, Season 8 is atrocious, squandering the good will earned by S7, the ending even more so, but on the whole, it's worth watching the collection.

    You could skip season 3 if you want as well; the 'Previously on Dexter' at the beginning of season 4 gives you all the relevant info.

    Last summer we watched seasons 1-6 more or less back to back in about 3 weeks. Many nights staying up until 4am. Just fiund it so addictive.

    1, 2 and 4 are must watch. 3 isn't great, but is passable. I wouldn't bother going any further than that. Way too much crap for it to be worth the effort.

    Yep made the mistake of going past season 4 and it ruins it in a way, Season 7 is a bit of an improvement on 5 and 6 but not worth it really
