So just found out last week that we are 6 weeks gone with our first :)

We have been talking over the weekend and have decided to go private in the Rotunda. I rang them today and now need to pick a consultant.

Would appreciate any feedback either directly or indirecty that anyone could give as are a few to choose from?

    Hi TRS30.
we are private in the Rotunda with Prof. Malone and, 22 Wks pregnant, I can only say good things> He is really nice and reassuring>
We have picked him for these reason:

    - we have done with him an early diagnostic test (Harmony/Panorama) that is only available privately. I found hi extremely good in this circumstance;
    - he is specialised in foetal abnormalities and being on the old age of the scale (nearly 39), I wanted to be sure I had someone very well trained and alert in case of any issue.

He is a bit more expensive than the other consultants (he is around 4K), but his experience and his attention to the baby were very important to me, as well as having a constant point of reference. So we decided to go with him

My sister in law and another person I know had 2 children each with him and they both praised him very much.

However, just to be complete in the info, he does not do the scan, he checks the results, but he is not in the room with you while the scan is done. The scans are done by his sonographer and she is very competent. I found this puzzling t the start, but then I have realised that she is highly trained and competent, so I feel fine now about it. But this initially was putting me a bit off, to be completely honest.

Having said that, so far I am really happy about this choice :)

    Hope this helps,
    M.

    Thanks M for the reply.

We have discussed some more and my wife feels she would be more comfortable with a female doctor.

We have narrowed it down to Dr Sharon Cooley and Dr Geardine Connolly.

If anyone had any opinion on either that would be great.

    Thanks.

We are booked in with her so have 'reassurance scan' next week. She seems to be very nice from what I have read so I'm sure she will be great.

    +1 for the Prof.

Max and I were in the very capable hands of Prof. Malone after it was discovered my membranes ruptured at 17 wks and we were transferred from Mount Carmel.

He didn't sugar coat anything but that meant when I did get a little bit of good news (in my case, it was that I was to be admitted to hospital for bed rest at 27 wks) I knew things were looking up :)

He wasn't there for the birth but came the morning after as it was an emergency c section. He was so kind to myself and all the other high risks moms on bed rest in the hospital while I was there.

I will definitely be saving up to attend his clinics for baby number two.

We are private with Dr Rishi in the Rotunda private clinic for our 2nd child (wife is currently 32 weeks) as he was recommended by our own GP (who's own wife has had 2 children with him) and he is a true gentleman, we really could not be happier with him, or imagine anyone could be any better.

We had a somewhat bad experience with our first child going semi-private at Holles st. but this time it's like the difference between night and day and we have 100% confidence that this will be a very different experience and well worth the extra money.

Had scan this morning. Didn't go very well as doctor said either we have our dates wrong or the baby has stopped growing as was only 7 weeks based on sac size. Also couldn't see a heartbeat so we are very worried. She said to come back in 2 weeks.

Is going to be a very long 2 weeks :(
