Just wondering if it's possible to buy a student bus & rail monthly ticket from the ticket machines in a DART station? Or does it have to be from the ticket office itself?

    Thanks

ticket office sadly, irritating and annoying if you're not able to get to it during opening hours

You can also get them from any Dublin Bus ticket agent.

don't think it'd be viable to sell student tickets from a machine, how would they verify that the buyer is a genuine student?

Ah, fair enough. That's kind of annoying but I suppose they do have to verify the student travel card is valid etc.

    Thanks for answering

Rail only student tickets are available from the machine, it does ask for the student travelcard number.

Each year is a different block of numbers so putting in an out of date student travel card id should result in a refusal to vend the ticket

you could still in theory cheat the system by using somebody else's travelcard number, but IE/Dart probably don't see it as potential issue because they check tickets & IDs so regularly that it's unlikely to be an issue.

so it's probably more of a DB thing then, because they don't have the same level of ticket checking they don't want people to be able to use their service (even via a combined Bus & Rail Ticket) without being properly verified first.

If you buy a monthly ticket like this, do you have to buy it on the 1st of a month, or how does it work?

Monthly bus/rail tickets are for calendar months only.

You can usually buy them at least a week before the start of the following month.

Interestingly,Groutch, with the Student Leapcard this very facility WILL (if enabled) be possible,as the Student Product can ONLY be loaded onto the (ID integrated) Student Leapcard.

This,of itself will open up new and desirable sales avenues including On Campus Vending Machines.
