My car has suddenly stopped going into first or second gear, the stick just won't move into position...i can take off(carefully) in third and all the other gears are working.

I reckon the clutch cable could be slipping out of its place, anybody got any otehr ideas?

The car is due NCT soon and i want to get it sorted but if it's going to cost a lot of money i'll get rid of it instead.

Then it's rather gearbox failure. Nothing to do with clutch

Actually sounds like a gear linkage to me, same symptoms as when it happened to my Polo.

    What's the prognosis then?

Will it cost much to get fixed?
