    Hey Folks
Looks like Im taking a trip to Delhi in November (6 days or so) (OH is presenting at a conference). I have been to Sri Lanka, Thailand, Egypt etc but never India and never in November. So...

    Any tips on:

    What to see and do
    What to pack
    What to avoid

    Thanks

Not a whole lot of see in Delhi
The New Delhi area like India Gate is interesting enough
    There is also Delhi Fort

Take a day trip to the Taj Mahal, which is about 3 hrs drive away

Weather is decent enough in Nov, getting cooler

Delhi is NOT a nice city at all unfortunately, unlike Mumbai which is reasonably pleasant but even that is a huge megacity with the resulting issues of traffic etc. Traffic in Delhi is horrific. Have been there myself for business. Have never really met anyone who actually liked Delhi. Go to the Taj and research what else is in the area but wouldn't really advise trying to do much in the city itself. If you can take the extra time would really recommend Goa which will be really nice in November.

Unfortunately we dont have the time to do any travelling. Looks like we are staying at the Shangri La in New Delhi which is lovely. Will do the Taj Mahal (think thats an organised trip with the delegates)

This book is recommended about Delhi. Maybe read it in advance.

Read up lonelyplanet forums like the thorntree. I'm sure that you can have a pleasant time if you're aware of the pitfalls.

Also, check what's on in the city at that time in advance culturally I guess.

The top hotels in India are amazing - almost too many staff.

You can also rent a taxi for the whole day for 20 / 30 euro or so - the guy will bring you around everywhere and wait. Usually they will have decent English and be a sort of guide too. Easier than a tour bus. I did this in Mumbai.

Depending on your age/comfort level you could dress down a bit and get out of the tourist areas and into the back streets to see how Delhians live. Ideally do this with a companion and probably not advisable if you're female. Unless you look like a scruffy, penniless backpacker you'll get lots of hassle from hawkers and beggars and it'll be torment. Not everyone's cup of tea but it's what I remember most from Delhi as well as the Red Fort, the train station and the cow in the airport arrivals hall.
