    Hi

I have two nephews who are mad for a console, they are 5 and 7 years old. which console would suit them better ? I know the wii is quite old at this stage but they are cheaper and I'm not sure they would appreciate the difference in the wii u

The main difference is 6 years of new games on the Wii U, aside from the other obvious differences you seem aware of.

Lots of good games available on the wii, especially 2 player stuff for boys that age. My lads wouldnt be much older and love the lego games, mario kart, olympic games, skylanders
They also have a wii-U and only have a few games, like lego city, and mario bros wii U. I dont think they really notice the difference in graphics quality between wii and wii-U (playing on a 40" tv).
Christmas coming now one of them want the new skylanders game, which I'll probably get on the wii-u (but thats my choice, not there's :)

Also, take a look around the modding forum, wii is an easy machine to softmod.

Agreed, young kids don't care, appreciate or are aware of hd, my five and half year old plays with my ps3 and his wii, but he loves the interaction the old wii offers more !! and as mentioned the softmod element can open some avenues for you if you are into that thing :)

if you are going for the older wii and it will be run on a hd capable tv, Id recommend one of these cables for a little graphical boost, really noticeable improvement I find
