Parcel in Customs in Portlaoise

I ordered an item from the US which has some taxes due on it, but I used my Parcel Motel address for shipping, its my default shipping address and didn't think.

The package is in Customs at the mail centre in Portlaoise, which I can see from the tracking number.
Customs said they wouldn't accept payment in advance of releasing it, Nightline said they won't accept any package with money due on it even if I offer the pay them and an Post say they won't divert to my home address, so that I have to wait until it is rejected back to them after they try to deliver and then I may have to travel to Dublin to collect in person.

Anyway, I checked my email today and saw there was an email sent to me last Wednesday afternoon from a guy in An Post to say they cant deliver to a Parcel Motel address and to contact them for my home address. This is not what I was told when I contacted An Post in Dublin.

How long do they hold packages for in An Post? I wish I had check my email sooner. I'm going to ring tomorrow morning.

Not sure how long they hold them for but best thing to do is get the custom charges paid off as soon as you can then notify both An Post and Nightline.

Got it sorted. The package was sent to my home address after I emailed on to An Post.

There has to be an easier way to deal with import taxes. There should be some sort of online tax calculator that you can use to calculate and pay what is owed. All customs have to do is check against this to verify a packae has been regsitered online and payment made.
