Maybe one for the infrastructure section which I never visit :(.

Can't believe how bad the sliproad - I use that term very very loosely at I think exit 23.

Was on a bus coming down from Dublin yesterday - and im astonished that this exit was actually deemed okay for a motorway.

You have what is frankly the shortest slip road ever - and then you have to make a 90 degree turn - straight off the motorway.

Unbelievable piece of design - how it got signed off is beyond me .

Have known about this piece of road design for a number of years having travelled on it a few years ago.

But by god its a disaster

Shurre there is a slip road on the m7 entering from Kilkenny side that is like a fairground ride savage 300 degree left that goes on forever.

    Wheeeeeeeeee !

A couple of the sliproads off the M3 and M2 are awful too.

Going round what feels like 3 full circles. Not to mention the interchange route between the n7 and the m50 southbound.

Bit of a joke tbh - now I believe that the idea of a sliproad is that you can enter and leave the motorway at motorway type speeds.

But its almost getting to the point now where you have to be prepared to do the unexpected - like having to brake hard while still on the motorway - and god help us if you want to join the bugger of a motorway.

The one I refer to on the Limerick to Dublin road - it looks like traffic leaving and entering the motorway do so from the same side road - so traffic joining have to make the same 90 degree turn and have only a small chance to get up to speed and get into a gap.

I know your not supposed to drive on the hard shoulder - but f;censored:k it I don't see that you have much alternative tbh .

Apparently the Tullamore bypass is very well thought out too - 7 roundabouts im told.

But I can live with that - still crap design though lol.

anyone remember the STOP sign at the end of the sliproad from the N4 to the M50 NB? That was the best!

I remember years ago before the N18 coming out of Shannon town got upgraded to motorway, there was slip road from Shannon heading back to Limerick where the traffic merged onto the overtaking lane . You just had to floor it when merging. Regular users of the road knew the story but you had tourists just out from the airport in rental cars with no clue what was going on. Amazed there wasn't total carnage at that junction, thankfully it was replaced by flyovers a few years ago.

Now that is so feckin Irish, that if it were not so dangerous it would be hilarious!

In general I find Irish motorways to be of rather lower standard than motorways in most other EU states.
I don't mean quality (as this looks quite good) but design.

Motorways in Ireland rather compare with express-ways on the continent.

However on the other hand, Ireland has such low volume of traffic, that they are more than adequate.

It's a bloody disaster alright, I was shocked when I first saw it. No warning signs to slow down to 50 kmh or anything and as the OP says how the design was ever signed off I don't know.

There are a couple of seriously dodgy ones in Germany, but they were built in the 40's and 50's in densley populated areas, these ones we have were built in the 2000's in a rural area, loads of land around to build a decent off ramp.

Only thing worse than Exit 23 is Exit 22 IMO.

M50 has its fair share of bad slip roads too. In fact I think every motorway has its share of really bad off ramps.

When you have bodies like RSA with figure head Gay only interested in penalising motorist and ignoring the biggest factor the road its not surprising its so poor.

The max speed limit on that slip is 80 kph.

    Irish eh?

See the 25 on the Roundabout? Follow the arrow on the road on to the M60, and join the Manchester Orbital Motorway in the outside lane.

Came off the Limerick / Dublin motorway the other week, on the way back from Killarney, and was shocked at the poorness of the junction - very continental. Went to the McD's on the Roundabout that used to be the road down that way - can't remember the town name, or the junction number.

Getting back on at the same junction was just as bad, but that's no worse than Naas Road outbound to the M50 Northbound.

    Ah yes.. dodgy slip roads..

    - The N7 to M50 south
    - 90 degree left from the M3 to Navan South exit after a very short run-off (passed a 4x4 one day that didn't make it and instead was wedged over the barriers) followed by a longggg left loop
    - M50 north to M1 north used to be fun too (realllyy short. Don't think it's improved much!)

It's amazing how we always seem to do the basics arseways in this country.
