Hi I'm just planning on buying Netflix but don't want to watch films/programmes on my laptop but play them through the laptop to my Sony Bravia TV. What's the best way to do this thanks? Also can this be done through an iPod to my TV?

    Thanks

One option is to use an XBOX for Netflix if you have one. Xbox gold subscription + netflix. Xbox connects to your TV via HDMI cable. xbox remote also provides a more TV remote like experience without having to use xbox controllers.

Another option is to use a wireless display extender. Receiver is connected to your TV via HDMI cable. USB transmitter connects to your laptop and extends display to the TV. No cables, no hassle and HD quality if you get the right wireless extender.

I have both the above options setup but tend to use the xbox 100% of the time for Netflix.

Newer Sony laptops support WIDI (wireless display) but it also depends on whether your Bravia TV supports the standard or not.

A more ancient option is to directly connect your laptop when required to the TV via an HDMI or VGA cable.

Just scroll through the inputs on your telly via the remote till you get to the right hdmi port and it should work.

I scrolled down to external inputs and then scrolled down to pc and it just says no sync even tho I have the HDMI lead connected to both. Is there anything I should be pressing on the laptop to sync them

Not usually, it's a straight up cable data feed, no requirement for any software support.

Also, the PC input on your tv may refer to the older VGA connection rather than the HDMI port. See if there is an HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 option and pick each one in turn, being sure to leave it on for a few seconds before switching channel as sometimes they take a few seconds to display.

I have a hp pavillion notebook and i dont have to do anything special. Did you try choosing a hdmi instead of pc on external outputs. It might depend on tv. On my old tv i used to have to restart laptop to get it to show up.

If it has windows 8, go to the top right corner of the screen till the menu shows up. Select devices, then select 2nd screen. Should do the job:)

If its 7, it'll be in display adaptors. Im only on w8 a month and cant remember back:o Try right click on the destop and select resolution, then detect for other screens. Sorry cant be more useful!

Yep it has windows 8 and I'm just after doing u stated above but it still not sync with my tv and even when I plug the HDMI lead into the PC the screen goes blank and the TV sometime turns off. I'm very confused :-(

    Could the cable be faulty?

What are your input options on the tv? Also, if you have several hdmi ports on your laptop it might be worth trying each of them.

Firstly, the HDMI port on the side/back of the TV should be numbered.
Take note of the port number. Now you're certain which HDMI port it is.

Next switch to the HDMI port via the remote - Select the relevant HDMI Port number.

On your laptop hold down the "Fn" button and click the "F7" or "F8" button (it should have a square logo on it which looks like a monitor.

    A menu should pop up.
    Select "Duplicate".

If that does not work, you may want to update the display drivers to the latest version.

I've got it sorted I've connected it to my newer Sony Bravia TV and went to external inputs and I selected HDMI 3 and it sync with my tv :-)

But I can't get it to work on my other tv. It's an older tv, it obviously has a HDMI port in the back of the TV but when I go to external inputs it has like the usual AV1 AV2 AV3 AV4 AV5 AV6 and PC. It does not have any HDMI but the TV has a HDMI port. The TV is also a Sony Bravia but a older one.

Can't it not be sync on this TV for that reason?

It's hard to say i'm afraid OP.

If it has an hdmi port then it would follow that it should be possible. However if you have tried all of the AV options and all of the above steps then i don't know what to tell you!

Anyone know what cable I need to connect a Toshiba Satellite L750 to a tv? I am in no way a tech-y person so I'm completely lost, I went online and it said that the laptop has
    "1 × DC-in
    1 × external monitor
    1 × RJ-45
    1 × external microphone
    1 × headphone (stereo)
    2 × USB 2.0
1 × integrated VGA Web Camera with built-in microphone
    1 (Left) × USB 2.0 supporting Sleep-and-Charge
    1 × HDMI
1 × Multi-Card Reader (supports SD™ Card up to 2 GB, miniSD™/microSD™ Card with adapter up to 2 GB, SDHC™ Card up to 32 GB, SDXC™ Card up to 64 GB, Memory Stick® up to 256 MB, Memory Stick Pro™ up to 2 GB and MultiMedia Card™ up to 2 GB)"

The laptop has an HDMI port according to those specs.
If the TV has an HDMI port as well then all you need is an HDMI cable similar to this:

    http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/ESSENTIALS-HDMI-Cable-2m/301260/192.2

I am not suggesting that you get that one or from there either. The link is just an illustrative example.

There are different qualities of cable (gold plated etc) and can range in price to 30 euro or perhaps more.
