Which starter set?

Was supposed to get into this last year but was away for a few months so it didnt happen been looking at 2 starer sets from the 2 main suppliers

Choice of 2 razors , thought there used to be 3?

you can pick between 3 razors that would increase the price a bit but not much.

The only difference I see with the sets is a different type of brush,
with shaving.ie you get a omega pro brush v 4Men you get a proraso brush
both sets you get the Razor blade sampler pack and Proraso Italian Shaving Cream.Shaving.ie gives you a Styptic Pencil which you dont get with 4Men.

With the shaving.ie set you get Edwin Jagger DE89L as the standard razor v
with 4Men its a Merker 23c.

I think the set from shaving.ie would be the better option not much in it but just a bit more bang for your buck.

Out of the 2 sets above would the set from shaving.ie be the better value?

I also think that the shaving.ie kit is slightly preferable as the EJ89 is a great razor, especially to start with.

Although 4men.ie don't give you a styptic pencil they do give you the Proraso blood stop gel instead. The styptic pencil is better in my opinion.

Proraso shave cream is great stuff, so you're safe there.

And shaving.ie service is outstanding.

didnt know that 4Men give you that gel, as said not uch in it but feel its slightly a better deal with shaving.ie and tb have heard very good feedback about both places.

Just a suggestion - I would suggest looking at buying the bits separately

would be about 52 euro (super saver delivery) - but the key thing you get here would be a stand and an (arguably) better brush. And a good quality razor


The soaps etc. are better value else where - so you end up with two orders.
However if you want you can pick up a travel shaving stick in your local tesco for a euro or two.

works out about 14 euro.

so total would be ball park 66 euro. However you get enough to be going on with for a few months.

One other important thing.
When I started with this about 6 months ago - what I did was start with proraso bowls and a brush and my quattro.

There's alot to be said for moving to a brush and some decent soap first with your current razor before you move onto the de razor imo.
The brush and the shaving soap are something that you can move to first separately.
I still use a cartridge razor on occasion - I have one of those proraso shaving bowl soaps still going strong after 6 months.

On the only other thing you "need" those pencils are about 2 euro separately (I've never used one)
