    Howdy folks.

I'm in the market for a new gaming PC as my near 7 year old XPS is on it lasts legs.

I've been checking out overclockers.co.uk and the prices there are great, but I'm wondering if any Irish sites offer the same standards for a similar or lesser price.

komplett.ie aren't bad but generally speaking you'll have to compromise on a couple of parts from an irish retailer to make the same price as a uk or German site. The differences aren't night and day like they used to be but they're there.

    Well, there is CustomPC.ie

Definitely not, They're quite pricey actually.

Then there is PC Specialist in the UK. Or build your own, Hardwareversand in Germany is quite popular with buildres around here (AFAIK, they will build the system for a small fee).

Komplett.ie isn't Irish they just own an Irish domain. They are based in Holland.

Look into building your own it is actually very easy to do and it will save you a lot of money.

There are no Irish builder that come anywhere close to a reasonable price. Offer someone here a few beers and petrol money if you don't want to build it yourself and order the bits off the websites used here.

Cheers for the advice guys. I've been looking over a good few sites, and while I have no problem building my own, I've decided to go with overclockers for the ease, price and overall great reviews of their quality.

Now I just need to decide on which to go for for decent gaming. Fun night ahead.

I've bought a few things from OverclockersUK and had to RMA one item. My experience has been very positive so, I reckon they are a good choice for those wanting a prebuilt system. Let us know how you get on.

Just put in my order there.
I've literally spent all day comparing between komplett, hardwareversand and Overclockers and finally settled on my choice.

    "AMD X4 Raid" AMD FX-4 4130 3.8GHz DDR3 Quad Core Gaming System 1 £186.71
    KFA2 GeForce GTX 650 EX OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card 1 £74.99
No Second Hard Drive Option (ZERO Cost) 1 £0.00
    Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD 1 £44.99
    NO OPERATING SYSTEM 1 £0.00
    24 MONTH WARRANTY - COLLECT & RETURN 1 £0.01
    Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) 1 £49.99
Standard Build Systems - Approximately 5-7 working days 1 £0.00
    Sub Total: £356.69
DPD Two Day Parcel - Eire & Scottish Islands (Mon-Fri) Shipping: £21.85
    Total Vat: £87.06
    Total inc Vat: £465.6

€550 is a pretty good price overall, considering the only thing it won't have is an OS (which I already have).

Even when comparing components on other sites and simply home building, it generally worked out a bit more expensive.
I'll try and post back when I have it up and running next week.

Where you're generally going to find concessions made is on the case and PSU. I used to be of the opinion that prebuilds, from boutique builders, worked out around the same as self builds. I was proven wrong on almost all builds.

Yes they will build a system for roughly what you can, but they will cut back in areas. That said that looks like a nice wee rig. I would warn you about that HDD though. It's very fast (I love them - I have three) but it will fail, all HDDs do, but probably within 12 - 24 months. Back up!

I'd chuck an SSD in that system when you get it and I think you'll be a happy camper.

I was genuinely set on building my own due to my current PC's slow death, but after speaking to dozens of friends, all of whom build PC's either for themselves or others, they all recommended Overclockers to me.
If I had a lot more spare cash I'd be certain to buy one of the more high end PC's.

A good friend mentioned the same thing about the HDD to me and advised the same thing. Luckily he has a spare SSD to pass on to me for it.

Specs wise the price is very good.

I'm not saying it was a bad choice, maybe they know you better than we do :D, just curious why they turned you away from self-building.

EDIT: Actually while the case is a bit plastic fantastic, the fan and PSU are pretty good for the outlay.

More in terms of ease, with my work schedule and finding free time it's really just easier to have it built for me.

This way it's simply a case of installing Windows on it and off I go.

Ordered it Sunday night, got my confirmation mail straight away and Monday morning another mail to let me know it was about to be built. Another mail on Tuesday to let me know it was being stress tested.

And today I get a follow up mail letting me know it's on it's way and should be here by tomorrow, or maybe Friday depending on conditions.

As soon as I have W7 or 8 installed I'll update this.

    I bet it's a bit like Christmas! :D

    Nice communication from them.

They have a warehouse in Ireland, in which you can send RMA's and if required serve notice on(worst case scenario). They were at one stage the no1 place to buy parts from in Ireland but destroyed that due to poor customer service, poor shipping and a lack of price competitiveness.

Yeah, they used to have a warehouse in Dublin alright but, they aren't there any more. It's all based in Holland now. Hence no more free delivery.

Got a mail Friday morning telling me it was due to arrive between 10.30 and 12.30. It came in the door of work at 10.35.

Brought it home Friday, BIOS were all set to boot from USB as I'd requested. Very quick setup and one reboot to get the resolution set fully and it was done.

Since I've gotten it I've been playing Skyrim on Ultra at about 45fps with mods, Crysis 2 on Ultra and quite a few others.

My only problem is that my old copy of W8 won't work for obvious reasons, so now I need to get a new copy and pay a stupid price for it. Other issue is the old copy is set as 32 bit, while the new PC is 64 bit.

Genuinely recommend this crowd. Fantastic deal on a great PC.

Great post! Not everyone wants to build and it's good to see some real life experience of a company doing things right!

Congrats on your purchase and may it give you many happy hours!
