Samsung Galaxy S4 wifi issues

    Hi,

Bought an S4 yesterday and started noticing right from the beginning that the wifi signal on it is very poor, I've tried 3 different routers and all have the same results.

Just to put this into perspective, my router in 15 feet away and I have 3 bars signal, if I go 20 feet away I'm down to 2 bars, if I go upstairs the signal goes whereas my S3 shows full signal.

S3 and S4 wifi readings side by side –70 and –90 and I'm about 20 feet from router.

Anything I can do besides go back to phone shop?
    Thanks.

Try this, go to the phone's keypad and type in asterisk #0011# it'll display a settings menu, turn off wifi power save option. This should help. Note that this setting reverts back if the phone is switched off.

Have you tried installing WiFi Analyzer ?

    Play Store Link

It might show that your router is running on a congested Wifi channel.
There's typically only 1-14 channels available.

I've no problems with the signal strength of my WiFi signal the full diagonal of my house. (upstairs to downstairs, back of house to front)

Some houses have a lot of metal pipework that blocks the signal too.
In my parents house the signal drops like a stone when you go down the stairs even using the same LinkSys 54G router I use for myself.

Thanks for the replies.. I've already tried all the suggestions, a friend in work has an S4 also so we did a test, my S4 and her S4 side by side, another friend has their wifi hotspot turned on.. I had 2 bars wifi and she had full wifi bars, hotspot phone was in view and about 20 feet away.. I'll send the phone to Fonfix during the week, I think it's my only option.

Hi, did you ever get this sorted? - I am having the same issue with my S4.

Have you got location settings activated?
My Nexus 4 was only showing 1.5MBps speed over WiFi but it increased to 15 when I turned off the location setting which was set to High Accuracy.

Edit: sorry just noticed it's WiFi strength rather than WiFi speed that's the problem

No problem, the speed looks high but the strength is always 1 bar :(
