Spanish insect ID please...

    Hi folks, the Mrs is on hols in mainland Spain at the mo and says the place is crawling with these guys. Can anyone ID for me please? Sorry about the poor quality pic.

    That looks like a praying mantis to me. Are they in Spain?

    Praying Mantis...leave well alone they are a useful insect - eating most of what you don't want in the apartment.

    If she is in Guadalajara or the Provinces of Barcelona, Malaga or Valencia then it's a praying mantis. Otherwise it's another mantid.

    Thanks folks! By 'crawling with' what she means is she saw 5 or 6 in the garden. mostly brown but a couple of green ones too. The locals have confirmed they are Praying Mantis (which the kids are really excited about).

    Yep she's about 30 miles north of Barcelona.

    Here in Malaga province they're mostly bright green... and fricken huge. Nice to see them around though. :)
