It certainly feels that way. Especially on Boards ;)

Just the one difference. Breaking Bad has improved with every series. Lost just went downhill rapidly after Season 1.

Exactly, even The Wire had a bad series (the 2nd) and possibly the 5th. Same with 24, Lost, Prison Break, etc. I can't really say there was a bad series of BB, it's hard to even order them except for putting series 5 at the top. It's up there with West Wing etc.

I think BB success (and I really hope they don't bring it back) is partly due to the total number of episodes which will ever be aired. 24 had 192 total, Lost had 121, BB will have 62 after the finale. It's a lot easier to maintain the consistency of quality over 62 episodes than 120+.

Yeah 24 got it hard to keep consistency over a season too read somewhere thats why it's only coming back for 12 episode's.

Id like to see the ratings for episodes watched on netflix see how popular bb is on that

The Wire had a bad series (the 2nd)

Season 2 is probably the strongest season of the Wire.

Also Lost was crap after everyone figured out the ending after season 1.

Probably is, but I think the non-stop buzz can be distracting also. Makes it harder to appreciate the show on its own terms when people (online and off) never stop talking about it.

Badger makes a cool observation in the latest Talking Bad that the rise of Heisenberg's notoriety the last few seasons and this one in particular almost parallels the show's own meteoric rise in popularity over time.

Indeed they didn't, but by half way into Season 2 I don't think anybody cared any more.

Not the eventual ending but the one they had planned on. There was a time when they were just writing for the sake of it without any endgame and it got so contrived.

I would've thought Dexter would be my top most anticipated finale but Breaking Bad was by far #1. It really reached fever pitch this season and especially the break in between. Some "this is the best hour of television ever made" episodes this year.

In a way I'm relieved it's over now if it paves way for some more measured criticism of the show. Less gushing and more balanced discussion. Breaking Bad is one of the hardest shows to talk about on the internet. It'll be interesting to see how highly people rate it years down the line.
