    Hey guys,

I figured I would come here for some advice cos you lot seem to really know your stuff when it comes to bikes and I on the other hand haven't got a clue!

I am looking for a decent road bike for 2 things. Getting to work (22km round trip) and also for some recreational cycles to get a bit fitter and shed some pounds...

I have been looking all over the place but it doesn't seem possible unless you're willing to fork out some serious cash. I have also been looking online for some second hand bargains and came across this which I thought looked pretty good http://www.adverts.ie/bikes/peugeot-vanoise-racer-bike/3836124

So basically what I am looking for is some advice on a decent 1st bike in the price range of about €400 max

I appreciate all the help I can get and thanks for reading :D

At that price range the Triban 3 from Decathlon gets a lots of recommendations. They're in Belfast but will deliver if you phone up.
Otherwise there's the Carrera TDF from Halfords; entry level quality at similar price.
Your money will go further second hand; but that takes time, luck and research.

The bike In the adverts ad is probably over 30 years old and while it's a nice bike I think you'd be better off going for something newer and more modern. Parts are easier to get and unless your into retro bikes you'll want something newer and modern as soon as you start noticing other bikes. Look on donedeal and look at bikes priced up to €600 especially ones that have been on fir quite a while as sellers might be willing to take less now that the cycling season is coming to an end for this year ( for leisure cyclists at least)

OP I wouldn't be looking at that bike you posted a link to as your first entry into cycling your heart will be broken.

Those kind of bikes are for the auld lads with a cast iron arse, quads like Arnie and memories of cycling to and from work uphill in both directions with the wind in their faces. :)

Plenty of decent bikes for your budget in the second hand market here's one, not a competition bike but by far better than that peugeot.

If you spend a little time trawling the adverts sites you'll come across some decent ones over the winter.

Just spotted that one is sold but you get the idea.

Thanks for the help guys!! Yeah I'm not particularly into old bikes I just thought that one looked in good condition. I've been looking at the Triban 3 but to they deliver to dublin? Also I'm 5'10 so what size frame should I be getting?

A 54 or 56cm frame would be about right for your height. Decathlon will deliver if you ring them up.
