RTE 1 via sky switching from 4:3 to 16:9

Anyone else having problems with RTE 1 on the sky box switching randomly and regularly from 4:3 to 16:9 and back again?

Late late is giving hassles at the moment, and it was very bad on weather forecast the other evening, but we don't watch that much RTE, so I don't know if it's an ongoing or regular problem

Only seeing it on RTE 1, and not happening on the Saorview box, via the same dish and multi switch, and into the same TV, which makes me suspicious that it's something to do with either the Sat box or the uplink to Astra side of things.

No other channels affected at all, it's stable on every other channel.

    Cheers

OK, so now we know it's not a box issue as such, how do we report it to RTE and get them to get their finger out of where ever it's stuck? Pain in the proverbial trying to watch a TV that won't stay in one or other mode.

Saorview does not come via a dish.

Yes, I am aware of that, Saorview comes in via a nice little aerial that is connected very happily into my multiswitch, and that then gives me all the satellite channels and the terrestrial channels on the one or two coax cables that run into whichever room I happen to connect it to, and if I get really desperate, I can run 6 sky+ boxes at once, without having to put in any extra LNB options, there's one 4 channel quatro (NOT quad) LNB on the dish.

So, I have a Sky+ box and a Saorview box running very happily off 2 drops of coax, and before the old analog channels were switched off, the TV set was happily receiving them as well. If I really want to get fancy, I can also multiplex the RF out from the Sky box back to the multiswitch on a third coax so that all of the other rooms can get the Ch 36 RF signal from the sky box, but that's getting a bit too messy.

The reason I mentioned Saorview was because there was no aspect ratio switching happening on that service, but it was happening on the Sky box, which suggests that there is some sort of issue happening with the way that the signal to Sky / Astra is being uploaded or encoded at RTE, and the fact that another member in Kildare has also had the same situation suggests that it's not just my box, which was what I was trying to determine.

On that basis, I've just dropped an E-mail to RTE, at least they hopefully will now know there there is something strange happening.

It's happened on EVERY weather forecast I've seen since Monday -- from "Morning Edition" through to "Six-One"

It didn't happen during any programming I watched but I don't watch the "Late Late"

Any emails I've sent them in the past have gone unacknowledged . . .

Posted a mail last night to RTE, and had an acknowledgement at 11:30 this morning thanking me for the mail, and advising that it had been forwarded to Networks, so we'll see what happens from that. Seems they understand what I've reported, and are taking it seriously, so that's a start, and hopefully it will be a fix as well.

Not sure if this is the same issue but....

All RTE channels have stopped working on my parents Sky + box. Next door to them also had the same issue but after a call to Sky they hard reset the box and its back now. However parents box still saying 'no satellite single' on the RTE and other Irish channels. All other Sky channels are working without issue.

We tried loads of stuff with Sky Tech help on the phone but nothing has worked. They are now sending a guy around to 'fix' it but they charge €60 and I don't see why we should be paying if the service is not working

    Any ideas?

It's sad fact in this world that if you can't do something yourself you have to pay someone. In the UK Sky charge £60 for this so think yourself lucky you are 10% better off.

Box is less than 6 months old and Sky did the install so I still don't see why we should have to pay for something to be fixed if it is not working as it should i.e. we are not getting the channels we paid for.
I will be calling Sky on my parents behalf and demanding a reduction in their monthly bill (which is a €66 a month and they have been loyal customers for almost 20 years)

You never said it was less than 6 months old. In that case it is under guarantee, a completely different matter.

Being loyal customers, however, means nothing these days.
