I need to get some new bits and pieces but can't decide on a polish and sealant combo for my black car. I'll be doing it by hand so need something that will hide swirls but will last through winter too.

Was going to go with Bilt Hamber Cleanser Polish followed by Auto Balm but now I'm not sure because I've read that some people find Auto Balm difficult to apply.

So what do yis think, is there better options? There's so much stuff to choose from I haven't a clue now

Its generally best to stick with the same manufacturer of the polish and the protection! If you mix manufacturers, the durability of the protection may not last as long as advertised.

For the winter months, I'd personally be thinking more about durability than appearance....besides, 90% of appearance is in the prep, the final 10% might be product choice.
Something like Chemical Guys Pro Polish 3n, combo'd with JetSeal109 would be good.

    Cheers Curran,

Is Chemical Guys Pro Polish 3n a compound polish with no fillers?, will it take allot of work by hand to get good results?

Best results you are going to get by hand is removal of oxidation and restore gloss and shine....you wont get correction.

Pro Polish contains no fillers, but does a great job of getting shine back into the paintwork by hand.
If you really want fillers, its hard to look past Autoglym Super Resin Polish and Extra Gloss Protection for a good durability.

If you want one of the better polishes to use by hand which has some filling properties, Einszett paint polish (green label) is a good option. Then something like Einszett Glanz wax (blue label, a liquid wax) will give several months of winter protection. Micks Garage sell them very cheap. Use a soft foam applicator with the polish and a microfibre applicator with the wax, to do the job right.

PB Blackhole and DJ Purple Haze.

Curran - I take your point about keeping manufacturers.

In that regard, would CG Blacklight and CG Black be a good choice? Or a waste for the money.

Blacklight isnt really a protection type product, I consider it more like a glaze for boosting shine, and help hiding some defects.
I also would slightly hinder the full potential of durability of the Black. Ive no personal experience of Black, as its realitively new, but I use Pete's 53 myself and it would struggle to get through the winter with two or three coats. It would if you were to use a quick detailer protection booster type product after ever use, such as CGs Blitz or my current favourite, Perfection, which will bond to any other product.

    Cheers for all the replies.
After doing some reading up I've decided to go with SRP and Collinite 476, seems to be a tried and tested combo that works well, I'd imagine Collinite will give better protection than EGP?. Think I have a bit of SRP somewhere too.

Reckon the EGP would last a bit longer.

You could also go with srp topped with Collinite 845.

Right, I've got all the bits and pieces together to tackle this at the weekend, the plan is to,

    Wash with APC,
    Tardis,
    Iron X,
    Clay,
    SRP,
    EGP.

    Couple of questions,
I haven't used Tardis or Iron X before, should I use Tardis to spot threat where I see tar or use it on the whole car?, whats the best way to use Iron X? Should I Tardis first then Iron X?

Should the car be washed before and after claying or is a quick rinse enough?

    Cheers.

    Wash
Tardis all over, allow to dwell
    Rinse
Iron-X all over, allow to dwell
    Rinse
    Clay
    Quick Wash
    Dry
    SRP
    EGP

    Job done :D

Started early on Saturday, wash, de-tar, de-iron and clay, have to say Tardis and Iron X are the business, make claying a doddle and the clay hardly picked up any crap.

Then a quick wash, 2 coats of SRP and a coat of EGP, let cure for 60 minutes and buffed of, then another coat of EGP Sunday morning. Glad yis convinced me to go with SRP and EGP. Used Currans tip about spraying EGP, had an empty bottle of Fast Glass so used the spray head off it, one spray on a microfiber pad was enough to do a panel and it buffed off easy. Planned on doing a third coat Sunday evening put the rain caught up with me.

Going to give the wheels a good clean and seal next.

I'd never do that, I swear :P, though I am tempted to start, noticed a few new dings, I try to be careful where I park but still manage to get dents:mad:, going to look into getting some PDR done. Have a few minor scuffs on the bumpers that need sorting too.
