    McILROY ANNOUNCES NEW MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE
Rory McIlroy today [27th September ’13] confirmed he has terminated his contract with Horizon

    A&L Goodbody in Dublin, Ireland.
The golfer’s business interests will from now on be managed by Rory McIlroy Incorporated.
CEO of RMI will be Donal Casey, an actuary by profession with many years of CEO experience.
The Rory Foundation for charity will be run by Barry Funston, a business leader and longtime
friend of the McIlroy family. Both men will serve on the RMI Board, together with Gerry
    McIlroy.
Media relations for the golfer and his management company will be handled by a team from The
Communications Clinic, led by Terry Prone

Old news, as any golf fan would know.

Right decision in my humble opinion, brand Rory is so big should head hunt the best for his own purpose.

Hopefully he can reach a reasonable agreement with horizon, as it s not the first agency he has left/ had to pay off.

Any one in who's doubting his golfing dedication should note he was playing Thursday morning out in old portmarnock in the most miserable of weather!

Any other posters dare 18 that day? ( Dublin area)

No, but I'd say any poor f*cker working on a building site would have gladly traded places with him....

How about doubting his dedication due to his caddy having to tell him to stop texting his girlfriend while walking down the first fairway of the irish open.

I think horizon will be less than impressed with the timing of the announcement, what with most of them in Barbados for GMac wedding.

Personally I would have thought that the less involvement he would need to have in the running if his "off course" affairs, the more he can concentrate on the "on course stuff".

I wonder how he will feel if he has to fire his Dad/friends in the future if things don't work out with this newco.

Lastly, I see the PR battle has already begun with a newspaper article today suggesting that payments to Horizon were excessive, €5M. That's a whole lot if money, but they also negotiated the biggest sponsorship deal in sports history for him and he did willingly sign a contract to give them 20% of earnings one would assume having received very expensive legal advice.

I don't get this kid, he has the world at his feet, beats other golfers for fun, has more money than he could spend yet allows all these issues of his own making distract him from what he does best. He isn't suddenly a bad player, surely the new clubs can't make that much of a difference if they are crafted exactly to his needs and wishes , so is it all this off course stuff that has led to his playing golf like a "journey man " pro?.

When he thinks about excessive fees he paid Horizon, how long will it be and how much further does he have to fall in the rankings before Nike start asking him what bang they are receiving for their buck?

See The Indo has been Spun already, the PR machine in full effect.

Sadly for Rory, The High Court wont be spun.

Big mistake for Rory to leave Horizon. They did a great job for him. Family affairs have a habit of causing friction that you cannot walk away from.

It says he wasnt on the list, and not that he just didnt turn up.

This thread is like reading the letters page from Hello at times.

He needs to get rid of his caddie, coach and father - he should never have left Chubby. Going to be a struggle to recover - only real winner will be A.L Goodbody

    Either way an interesting development.
Seems like this is not going to be a clean break

I would reckon most of Horizon would have been there. Probably not the most comfortable place to be when he is just about to start legal procedings against them

Presume rory did read the contract before he signed to see what he would pay them or did he just sign without thinking and now he isn't pleased.

Maybe he needs to back or school to finish his education

20% does seem like quite a lot of commission. However, by all accounts Horizon are very good at what they do. They did their job by getting Rory a great deal with Nike. Rory was the one who let the side down with his disasterous play this year.

Also, Rory taking 80% of a massive Nike deal (plus many others you'd assume) is better than him taking a higher percentage of a much smaller deal when he was with Chubby.

I hope it works out for him but I can't help but think he is making a mistake here. He'd be better off listening to guys like Faldo, Nicklaus and Player who have been telling him all year to just focus on his golf.
