Following on from another thread where it was mentioned DUB(T2) doesnt have electronic marshalling at the stands.

I was at the gate today(T2) and our aircraft was coming in on stand and i couldnt help notice there was no one to marshal the Aircraft, well no one with wands and no one standing in front. I did notice one lad standing to the side of the aircraft, waving an arm. But thats bout it. was this the person ment to be bringing an aircraft onto stand? Like when i was over in T1 they were using wands. like im guessing there not compulsory. in that ones arms would do?

Just curious as to the procedure.

I'd say there was someone there with wands but you couldn't see them. Sometimes they stand on the footpath in front of the pier which is hard to see from the gate area. If it's the EY/EK 777 they use an air stairs with a cage on the top to marshal the aircraft in and this is also on the footpath in front of the pier making it hard to see.

somone you may have seen at the side of the aircraft would have been somone carrying out the task of a wing walker. These guys are a reference for the crew and the marshaller to ensure that the aircraft stears free of all obstacles. Of course the stand should be pre-tripped to ensure it is free of FOD, GSE and and potential obstacles but as a precaution wing walkers would be used depending on the type of aircraft and the SOP of the airline.

Thanks. Found the stairs. Ironically i was standing right beside it but failed to look down. Is it just the EY/EK gate this is done because its just so permanent? Didnt see any down where the american a/c come in.

It's just for the EY & EK 777 due to their size and ability to see a Marshal on the ground.
