printer fails after OS 10.8 update

After an Eircom upgrade to fibre yesterday, my daughter updated her macbook to OS 10.8. Her printer an HP 3050A wireless was working perfectly before, then it failed to respond.
I downloaded an updated driver from HP.com, Deskjet-3050A-J611_v12.23.0.dmg , installed it as wireless (using the USB cable along the way for the final stage) . It shows up with it's Ip address - no problem.
However , It says that the ink cartridge is incompatible !!!
It's the same cartridge it worked with all along
Has anybody experience of this ?
Could HP or Apple has a software issue with this printer driver ?
