Im just wondering if anybody who had done this course in the past had any opinions on the Textbook(Microeconomicsby Rubenfeld and Pyndyck,8th edition) Is it worthwhile, or useless. Its €150 euro on Amazon, and id like to avoid spending it if at all possible.

    Thanks

I didn't do that module, but I would never spend that much on a book. See if it's in the library first. I've gotten through all my exams from lecture notes & going to lectures and tutorials.

    Hi oosulley!

I did EC201 last year and used the 7th edition as my textbook. I also used it in first year and am using it again this year for my advanced microeconomics course in 3rd year. I think it compliments the lecture notes well. Sometimes you might need something explained a little further and it does that quite well. I certainly wouldn't pay €150 for it that's for sure. Right now the 8th edition is about £53 on Amazon and €57 on bookdepository. Have you been specifically told to get the 8th edition? If not, then the 7th or 6th editions can be picked up for a very reasonable price. Check the notice boards in the arts block or amazon again, there's usually a couple of 2nd hand copies floating about this time of year. Even if you have to pay €57 for a new edition, that's less than €30 per year for a book you'll almost certainly be using again in 3rd year.

    Hope this helps,
    Paddy Irishman.

Amazon seems to have it for anywhere from £5 to £40 used.

As a general note, how accurate are those super-cheap used prices on Amazon? I've never ordered from there before, but I've seen loads of college textbooks less than €15 used and in stock. Seems dodgy, but if it's true, definitely worthwhile.
