I am planning on flying from Cork to Sydney in a month or so. The Cork to AMS flight will be a seperate ticket than than the AMS -> SYD (Short stopover in AUH (Abu Dabi)).
I have 2 hours twenty minutes to get the next flight. In that time I will need to get my bags and recheck in, go through security, passport control? and then onwards to the gate.

Do you think this is enough time to do that? Will Aer Lingus check the bagage through. They do a code share alright with eithad I think. Could they even check me in for the eithad flight onto AUH in Cork?

security is generally at the gate in schipol and its all one big airport, so really its as fast as you can run around it determines how long it takes you to get from one place to another. So should be loads of time.

In saying that...buying seperate tickets for such a major flight seems risky should teh first flight be delayed substantially...Aerlingus however may check teh bags through for you, call them and ask.

Yes, seperate tickets it must be as its a special Eithad fare and they wont allow onwards flights to Cork.
I have two options. Get the ticket that will bring me all the way from Syd to Cork for $1596 AUD or get a Syd to AMD for $1250 and buy a seperate aer lingus ticket (about 200 AUD). I will save about $150 but will add a bit of stress.

Sneekly third option is get the early flight from Cork and get the 22:00pm flight from AMS to Syd, spend the day in Amsterdam as I will have a 13 hour lay over...

    Decisions, decisions...

If your going to buy on separate tickets then 2 hours is nowhere near enough time, they will not check your bags and you'll have to collect and re-check them.

Only safe option really would be to fly the day before or have a long layover (Your other option)

What would you if Aer Lingus decide to re-schedule the flight or is delayed ?

Will they do onwards connections to Dublin or Shannon (or Belfast) instead of Cork? If so, consider that option and getting the bus or train to there and flying on a single ticket.

As above, the 2 hour connection could put the kibosh on all your plans. The plane taxi time in Schipol can occasionally be huge - you could eat up 20-30 minutes on a bad day. Add that to a 30 minute delay and you will have problems. Most of the time it's not that bad, but if they are using their really remote runway (36L, I think) you could have problems.

Also consider whether the AUD150 saving is worth the extra stress & the possibility of ending up in Amsterdam when you want to be in Sydney.

100 euro .... Jesus I wouldn't even think twice, at least then its the Booking airlines responsibility to get you from A-B

So much can go wrong when you fly on separate tickets.

Worst i've heard was a guy flying from Amsterdam - Geneva with Easyjet to get a flight to the US.

His bag didn't make the flight in Amsterdam so they put it on the next flight out, unfortunately he was gone by then.

Easyjet had to responsibility to forward his bag to the US (of course)
