Pre Inspection - Used Car

I am looking at purchasing a used car under 6K around the greater Dublin area and interested in getting it mechanically inspected.

Any idea how much the Motorcheck/Advanced Pitstop physical inspection check costs and what it covers?

Any recommendations to other services or mechanics who can provide a similar service around the Blanchardstown area?

I should say that i have purchased a Motorcheck report @ €35 and it seems to be a load of ****e as usual. Even though the vehicle has been through an NCT, with the next one due in May 2014, there is no record of mileage...whatsoever.
So that's of no flippin use to me prior to inspecting the details personally and a waste of my money.

Also no Co2 data, no Vehicle valuation, no user reviews, no safety rating + no Mileage record.

In past the past i've also used the Cartel reports with similar results.

Altogether a waste of time and money as far as i am concerned.

However to re-iterate:

I share your grief re-online checks. These services should be more transparent and tell you what kind of information they contain before you pay. A pre inspection by a good mechanic is always a good idea but only if you have narrowed down choices and are very interested in a particular car. Try and use your network of family / friends to find a good mechanic. These chain store garages are riddled with poor customer service stories and they often employ ill qualified people in my opinion.

A good mechanic who has a solid reputation and is used by people in the locality for years is what you want. Hard to find these days but when you do, it'll be worth it.
