I am a very quiet and peaceful neighbour. A couple of months ago I got a lift with a guy who lives a few doors away from me. He is quite friendly. So today I went to collect my bins and he comes over for a chat.

He asks me if I know someone in a dark green car. I said no I don't. He then told me that last week there was someone who was parked outside my house. Another vehicle pulled up and they drove off. A bit later the two of them returned in another vehicle and parked somewhere where they could watch my house. He mentioned that it has happened once before.

I asked him for a description and could it have been the gards, maybe undercover ones. He said it is not the garda and that they were dressed in a shirt and tie, very official looking.

I said that I don't owe anybody any money and have never been in trouble with the police. I also told him that it could be the council (housing) or social welfare (I'm on BTEA.) My wife has been away quite a bit and perhaps we are being monitored. I'm not sure what is going on but its starting to bother me.

Any idea who they could be?

Could be the social, as long as your above board your fine, has your neighbour not got the reg at this stage, watch our for it yourself and get the neighbour to as well, once you have the reg get the Gardaí to investigate.

I just got switched to BTEA and everything went smoothly.

What about housing? I live in Galway City on a council estate. Does the housing dept. conduct any investigations in this manner?

If you are doing the dodge on the social in anyway like saying you live alone etc then it is probably the social

If you are not doing anything dodge then you have nothing to worry about social wise

Is there any chance that it was someone else living in the area, giving a lift to someone and parked outside your house, then moved off to somewhere else to sit and chat or make a phone call?

It could have nothing to do with you, could just be someone looking for a place to pull in, even if in front of someone's house, to stop and chat or take a break from driving.

I'd be interested to know how your neighbour noticed by the way. Were they outside themselves, how did they know they were parked somewhere else specifically to watch your house? What gave them away that he thought that?

In your shoes I'd probably air concerns with the Gardai if perhaps there is someone hanging around your area and being suspicious or it's a regular thing and see what advice they have.

We don't have a car and no one really visits so maybe that is why the green car stood out that day. He mentioned that on this estate people in a shirt and tie stand out and they get noticed quite quickly.

When I saw him today he had a trailer with a small off ride bike on it. He does landscaping. I would think that he spends a few minutes offloading items and moving it to his back yard, before entering his house.

You ask some interesting questions. Maybe some people are naturally curious.

Have you an insurance claim in. Insurance companies hire p.i to follow people or maybe some one else. Are you in a court dispute such as custody of a child etc.. People hire P.I s for many reasons

Could be the social alright. I know someone who had people watching his house. He rang the guards about it and they checked it out, came back to him and said that they had spoken to the people in the car who had a valid reason for being there, though the guard could not disclose what that reason was

It could well be that it's not your house they're watching. I'd say if it's someone official keeping an eye on you that they'd be unlikely to park directly outside and arouse suspicion. It could be one your neighbours that they have an eye on.

I've heard of people with insurance claims having it happen. Maybe one of your neighbours has a claim or something.
