I called into ballina mart on Monday and I was only in 2 mins when I had 6 or 8 dealers picked out and I am not even from the county they were so in ur face and loud and obnoxious staring around at ordinary men bidding behind them and arguing among themselves about whos turn it was to buy this one and poor me I only got 2 cattle today and one man came all the way over to the other side of the ring to confront another man as he bid against him now I no it goes on in all marts but at home they are normally quite and conspicuous and mannerly about it god help the ordinary man trying to deal against them crowd I just thought it very funny from a complete strangers point of view

I see Tuam mart has changed its ring to make it farmer friendly for buyers. The usual culprits can no longer see whose bidding plus more privacy for the seller. Its the first attempt I have seen by a mart to be proactive to both buyer and seller. small changes can mean a lot its very welcome

worst ive had was in ennis, thick jobbers come up and sit beside you or behind you, breathin down your neck, hard when you'd be trying to talk to the auld lad beside you makin up your mind on an animal, no bother if your on your own though

the odd time ive seen auctioneers become completely impossible to understand and the same jobber would scoop up the beast everytime

I haven't shown a lamb in a mart for over 15 years , straight to the factory or abattoir if heavy

Play them at their own game. Have some one bid them up for ya. If you get caught with them so what. Better than giving them away soft to them

Can't see the logic behind having someone bidding them up for you. It will be well noted and the price is due to demand and supply.

As a seller it is your right to bring them home in any event.
