If it's a detail your after spirit detailing in leixlip or detailing shed in swords.

They're actually detailers where as other places calling themselves detailers are high end valeters.

You could also try Kingpin if it is more convenient location wise.

Their €649 original price seems a bit of an exaggeration unless they were using some serious products!

I would say that price would include a paint correction.

Heres the full job they do: http://www.cleanmycar.ie/car-detailing-dublin/

Would the above really be 649 in the likes of Spirit or from Curran? Wouldn't know the level of work involved myself but I had a quote of full paint correction from elite for a little over 200 on the last car.

I just had cleanmycar over today to do a machine polish and sealant on my car. It was €49 on grabone.ie

The bad: he was about to wash the car with a sponge  I had to
insist he used one of my wash mits. When I pointed out that a sponge would drag grit across the paintwork he said it would be grand as the polish would sort it. Surely prevention is better than cure... I decided I better leave him to it or he'd be there all night.

The good: the car looks fantastic. Bugs and tar were the bane of my existence and they are completely gone. The wheels were de-tared too and they are gleaming. Tyres are dressed too. I think he used Autoglym HD as that's what he advised me to use to keep it tip top.

At the end of the day, it's a good polish for the money, but how difficult is it to get a few microfibre wash mits?

Anyway, he's coming back next week to do a polish on the CRX which is showing its age a bit. It should be interesting to see what he can do with that.

Stimpson, if you don't mind me asking - how many hours did it take from start to finish?

An hour and a half. Which is quicker than I can do it by hand.

Paint correction, even if it were only a slight enhancement by one person should be 2 hours prep time alone.

It wasn't advertised as a paint correction per se. It was "machine polish and sealant". I wanted a good wash, de-tar and wax which is exactly what I got. I plan to throw a couple of coats of wax on it at the weekend now that it's spotless and that should see me through the winter. I didn't expect much more for €49 TBH.

Sorry...thought you'd gone for the more expensive package.

For 49 quid you would have gotten a decent job I suppose. ...but to advertise it as a "machine polish and seal" is a bit misleading.
Using a sponge and charging 649 for some of your packages is a bit of a shocker. You wouldnt just use sponges because you're doing a small job....you'd be totally against it if you were a detailer!

The silly price and heavy discount is just a marketing trick, so prospective clients perceive they are getting something special at a bargain price. In truth they are more likely to get an expensive valet, rather than an inexpensive detail.

While 49 quid or whatever is very cheap if the job is done to a good standard, it should be advertised and performed as a "hand polish and wax". No machine polishing of paintwork (no matter how cheap) should be offered and performed without proper decontamination of the paint first. Nor should any sealant be applied to contaminated paint. To do so is unprofessional but then of course most punters wouldn't know any better. However, if a client is happy with what they get for the price they pay, regardless of how it is performed or what terminology is used to describe or hype up the service, that's what will matter most of all (to them).

Absolutely - I was a bit shocked when I saw the sponge coming out - even moreso when he didn't see the issue.
