    13 year old Astra.

Had been lying idle for bout 19 months.

Back on the road in January had been driving solidly till 3 weeks ago.

Went to start the car and totally dead. Tried push start and jump leads but nothing.

Left it sitting for 2 weeks and tried it last Friday. It started and ran perfectly for a week until yesterday.

Sat in the car and it wouldn't start. Same thing dead as a doornail, I don't understand how it could work and the. Just go dead again.

When I turn the key there isn't even a meg out of the engine.

Any ideas what it could be/what I should try to get it started.

Similar happen to me last year ,would start sometimes ,then not at all, called breakdown one time was told faulty fuel pump, was going to replace when someone suggested test pump relay, so i replaced relay anyway, not a problem since.
of cause could be many other things to cause non start.
    my is Astra G 1998.

How would I test the battery?

It's a new battery that I put in 9 months ago so don't imagine it would be that.

They will discharge over time if car is not being used. It may be flat.

You need a cheap volt meter to read voltage.

There is too little information to give advice
And "not a meg" means nothing.

When you turned on ignition did all the dash lights light up ?
When you turned ignition to start did the engine crank over ?
If it didn't crank over could you hear a lould click or clicking noise. ? Lights go dim?
If it did crank over did it just fail to start up and run. ?

    Update on this.

Got a call this am saying the garage had 'reconditioned' the starter and the cost is e130.

    Does this sound right?

What does a recondition actually mean.

It means they took it apart and cleaned it out and perhaps changed a thing or two.
130 sounds like an ok price
