Does this open in November for 2014? Or has it previously? As in, is it possible to get a license to use for cross in December if I don't have one for this year already or am I facing ODL's for all the cross races I do?

    Thanks

yes its supposed to open Nov 1st(?) after agm when fees will be fixed and that will do you for the cross season iirc. They are implementing a new membership system that was to be delivered before Nov. I dont know how thats going. I thought it was ambitious but who knows hopefully they have it.

Think agm is on Oct 26th in Monaghan.

(PS Jaysus I am still working for CI!!!!)

morana.... Since you arent working for CI you may not have an answer to this question.
If I get a vets (IVCA) licence for racing 2014 will it allow me to race open races as well on it.
I am sure it was discussed before on here.

Pretty sure that this is still the situation although I expect it will be up for discussion again (and again) this year!

So just to be clear - I can buy a IVCA racing licence and can race A4 open (CI designated) races on it

If you ride open races on an IVCA licence they automatically classify you as an A3

A3 is just like A4 but with better cornering, less crashes (sometimes) and more stage races.

But that means I will have to converse and rub handlebar tape with the likes of Lenny and Killanerr and other such undesirables.
Taking out a seperate A4 licence is a much better proposition and pretend I dont know anybody (I probably wont know anybody anyway so even better)

bcmf im not certain but im fairly sure that you cant ride open Cycling Ireland races on a ivca licence.Nearly sure you have to take out both.It has changed from where we were a few seasons ago??

Technically CI licence holders can ride the Vets (I have for 3 years now on one).
The issue is that the IVCA insist you sign up and pay for the entire racing program and commit to marshalling on 2 or more occasions.

yeah you can ride CI races on an IVCA licence at the moment you cant ride IVCA on a CI one though.

IVCA licence allows the holder to compete in CI A3 races. One day licence are NOT required. It does not allow you to partake in CI National Championships.

I currently have a CI intro licence and the plan is to do a few races next year including some league races, so what would be my best option licence wise for 2014? I turn the big 4-0 in November.

An A4 open licence[lowest Sen category]will allow you to compete in any open event where A4s are catered for.You can also ride club leagues etc with this.
Alternatively you could opt for a club competition licence which basically is for league races and stuff promoted by your own club.
Age doesn't come in to it im afraid, except for vets champs.

There is one gotcha to beware of though. If you are over 40 you can choose whether your open licence says SENIOR or VET in brackets after the licence number. "So what?" you might ask. Seems that the bit in brackets determines which National Championship event you are eligible for. A lot of people got caught out by that this year, as reported on Sticky Bottle and elsewhere.
