Can someone tell me that if you remove the oil cap from the engine while the engine is running and it literally sprays oil out is there something up with it?

Why on earth are you taking the filler cap off when the engine is running?

Of course it will spray oil out!

In my experience if you open the filler cap of the engine and you can see the camshafts its normal to see oil spraying out while the engine is running, because camshafts are spinning and therefore oil is being circulated and thrown around the camshafts. But if the engine is designed in that way that you cant see the camshafts I don't think there should be much oil spray coming from it.

If you want to avoid spraying oil when the engine is on, remove the sump plug first.

No, it means someone through lack of experience removed the oil cap with the engine running without knowing that the engine is suppose to be off while carrying out such a procedure;)

STOP! You're getting it wrong: you need to completely drain all the oil out, start the car and then remove the cap. This should alleviate your nasty spraying problem.:)

Remove the coolant also and then start the engine... they say it increases HP :)

Seriously OP don't do it again ;)

Wear a long loose tie and a hat and get as close as you can to all belts and pulleys and have a good look. Try licking the red battery terminal at the same time. Something will start spraying soon enough...

You need a glass oil filler cap, so you can see the engine running without removing it.

Yes all cars will spit out some oil through oil filler hole.

If there is blocked engine oil breather or pistion rings worn you will get higher back pressure

Use to be common to remove cap and cover with hand to feel the pressure with engine running. But you need to be very familiar with that engine.

Some engines are designed to produce pressure in the crankcase while running, in others what you describe will be as a result of poor sealing around the pistons.

Also common to remove cap to see if any 'smoke' is coming out of a warm engine or white mayo on the cap. This could be coolant mixed with oil from a head gasket leak. Some oil spray is normal yes as the cams are spinning. Some engines have a cam cover so there wont be any spray.
