I have just got the Defy 2 2 weeks ago, I have to say i really like it. I would love it but I am still getting used to the gears. I am just getting into cycling and for me I think it was the right choice. My longest spin was 53kms and I had no problems with my back or anything else related to the riding position so I am delighted with that. It is very fast too. I cannot compare to the Trek but this is my experience.

Hope you enjoy which ever you pick

I was in a similar situation a month ago, read reviews and had settled on a defy 1. I went for a test spin in lbs on defy 1, 2 and 3, then tried the composite 2. Also went out on the Trek 1.2 and the 3.2 madone. In the end it was between the madone 3.2 and the defy composite 2, and I plumped for the composite 2. What I found was that at the lower end which was my initial budget (a grand ) the bikes were a little underwhelming, only when I tried the pricier bikes I felt happier.
My advice would be to have a shot on both if you havent already.
