Right sit tight this is a bit of a story,

So about 3 weeks ago I started having pain in my back, around the kidney area, not a stabbing pain more of a discomforting dull ache. A few days later, I noticed a burning sensation on my tailbone - most noticeable at night when lying flat on my stomach.

    #Doctor Number 1 - Doc On Call
So these two pains went on for a few days until I decided to head to the doctor on call as my GP was away on her holidays. Did a urine test and blood pressure/temperature with the nurse..all normal and urine clear. Sat with the Doc for two mins, asked if I'd strained/jerked my back in anyway. No and No. He then pressed areas of my back asking if it hurt, again no. So he told me I'd done "something" to my muscles in my back/spine and prescribed an anti-inflammatory and painkilling gel.

Grand I thought - a few days of this and I should start to feel a difference..5 days later..no change at all.

    #Doctor Number 2 - Stand-in GP
So about a week after seeing the Doc on Call, I decided to book with my local GP as my pain hadn't reduced at all. Turns out I was booked with her stand in as she was still away. This Doctor did similar tests, again clear urine sample and BP. He decided to change the gel for a stronger dose and told me it "could" be a kidney stone.

Again I thought grand..few days..lots of water...maybe the "stone" will pass.. week later..no change

    #Doctor Number 3 - My GP
Went back out to my GP, thankfully she was back from her holidays, I was still in awful amounts of pain. She thought it might be a kidney stone (urine exam number 3 was clear too). Told me to go to hospital with x-ray referral and to get bloods done. Head into the hospital the same day...

    #Doctor Number 4 - Dr.QuickFix
Got into hospital at 10:45 had my details taken, wasn't seen by a doctor until 18:30. Needless to say I was tired and still in pain. But I thought at least I'll get what's needed done. Doctor does nothing new, quick exam, checks my flexibility and thats it. No bloods, no x-ray he says totally unnecessary it's a urinary infection, prescribes me an anti-biotic and powerful painkiller and tells me I can go.

Tired and fed up I just left (yes I should have stood my ground saying my GP wanted bloods and an x-ray [yes x-rays don't show 60% of kidney stones but it was to rule out other things too]) but i left and got my prescription the next day.

Fast forward 3 days and still no change, the only difference being the effectiveness of the super strong painkillers. Friday night rolls around and I am still in pain, and it gets worse. Had to call my neighbour to drive me back to A and E I could barely walk.

    #Doctor Number 5 - Straight talking Doctor

This new guy is firstly shocked at what the previous A and E doctor had prescribed considering he did no real investigations. New guy sends me for x-rays and bloods as well as doing his own rigorous examination. Thankfully (?!) bloods/urine/x-rays all come back clear. However it's clear from the x-ray that my bowel is pretty backed up and he attributes this to the unnecessary meds (especially the pain meds) i'd been taking. From his view he doesn't see anything in the tests that worry him, he even brings the surgical team in for an examination and they see nothing in the test results that warrant any worry. He feels I must have pulled a muscle in the lower back or clipped my tailbone off something and did a bit of nerve damage.

Change of medication, few laxatives for the bowels and a lower dosage of pain killers later I'm here..almost a week on. Still in a bit of pain (nothing like before) but still with a dull ache in the kidney area. Still none the wiser as to what is going on with my body.

*If you made it this far, well done you*

Anyone experienced anything like this? I'm not sure if I should be worried or not, all tests have shown no damage, bloods have been clear - white cells normal etc.., no sign of fractures etcs. I leave early next week for 4 months with work so I'm not sure what's my next step to take.

Fair play if you read all the way.

Physios can sometimes give opinions about diagnosis of muscular problems and the like. They press/feel people's muscles and the like probably more frequently than the average doctor and hence perhaps gain more knowledge of how things can feel more, perhaps. Similarly in terms of mobility problems people can get with specific problems.
