I recently flashed a different rom to my motorola defy mini and lost the imei number i.e. when i enter *#06# i get a return of 0. Now before anybody asks i haven't backed it up, in fact i'm just wondering is there a generic way to restore this on an android device. i've seen some device specific walkthroughs for imei restore but there doesn't appear to be anything out there for a defy mini.

    Cheers in advance

My mate had this problem with a Sammy Nexus, as there was no backup made there was not much I could do, ended up having to go to a Chinese shop and the lads flashed it with a Samsung flash tool which repaired the IMEI also....

I'm sure Motorola have a similar tool that shops may have...

There are some applications that claim to fix this problem even if its not backed up. Might be worth googling and trying xda. There's some youtube videos about it too.

It can be fixed with certain Samsung phones alright, its an easy fix on a GS3 and Galaxy Note, unfortunately the Nexus wasn't....

Is it the EFS folder OP?

Re-flashed it with a different ROM (Nordic retail version) and everything is hunky dory again! Wuhoo

Well just realised last night the reason that my Samsung S3 wont connect to the network is that the IMEI no on phone is not what it says on the box:mad: No back up of EFS yes I know but was trying to update firmware and ROM and somehow it changed the IMEI code:( Not under warranty

Tried everywhere on the Interweb to see how you can change it but seems only option out there is for US versions of phone. Is there any way I can change this or if not if I left it in for repair to Asian phone shop how much are we looking at?

    Cheers

Dont talk to me:rolleyes:. Did a CWM back up of the phone and then updated the latest Wanamlite Rom but for some reason could not connect to wifi so decided to restore but got an MD5 mismatch and long story had to do a Factory reset. However the firmware was still Wanamlite so installed stock rom as I could not connect to network. No that did not work and dialled *#06# to get IMEI and its not the same as whats on the box. The SIM is ok as works in other phones but cannot change IMEI back to what its suppose to be. Could only see program called Octoplus Box but you have to buy the box. Nothing out there to change it back or is there..would love to know..

Otherwise its going to an Asian shop for repair:o

    Cheers

Don't think CWM backs up your EFS unless you used philz or TWRP they do afaik.
Flash a stock rom again. and try one of the latest ones, even the new 4.3.
If your custom rom has changed your efs folder and your flash back to an old stock it wouldn't read your new EFS and thus no network. Try the new stock rom if that doesn't work, go into a shop and best stick with stock till you get it back.

Dont think it would back up the efs but have not got the phone so need to check what would the file be called and if I do have it how do I restore?

The latest Rom I will try to flash and see but not holding out much hope. Bro works for Samsung so maybe able to get it fixed for small price and a pre-production S4 maybe coming my way until it is fixed that should be fun

Go into your backup folder it'll be EFS.img most likely.
Try 4.3 or the following both will have the new EFSv2 which I think yours could be on at this stage. I have flashed the folloiwng when I was getting crashes and had to update my Bootloader adn it cahnged my EFS to v2 but I had a backup. I haven't changed back to EFSv1 mind you.

Also on the offchance flash this zip see if it helps your connectivity.

Downloaded and installed the efs file and it worked. I am now connected:)
I am on version XXELLA and version 4.1.2 and baseband 19300DDemg2. Tried to update the Rom and had same issue no connection but just flashed file again and worked. However I want to install JKay Deluxe XXEMD3 is there anyway I can do this

Also to stop this happening what do I use to back up everything including EFS and all so I have a back up

    Cheers

Not much you can do. You now have efs v2. Most roms don't touch the efs. I just stay on cm. Any Rom after August I think will be efsv2. Most with the m in the file name will be efsv2. Just keep that zip file handy. I use twrp, flash it with goo manager. Our philz will back it up but you'll be backing up efsv2. Or use root explore to zip the efs folder.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks so is it possible to install a developers ROM(over on XDA) rather than stick with stock what is the best way of doing this...sick already of looking at O2 splash screens? What are my options. To back up you say use TWRP manager and that will back up everything including efs.

Also maybe selling it so would it be just a factory reset again as its rooted so should be able to be used on any Network correct?

    Thanks

Yeah you can go to any Rom but keep that zip. You may need it in order to get network on any other Rom. Backup with twrp and titanium and /or helium. If you're selling it make sure to delete the files in the phone aswell as a factory reset. Also when backing up, make sure they're backed up on your microsd and not the internal so. A wipe will delete those backups.

    Hey mate,
Would that ZIP work for me and my borked Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the generic IMEI it now has!? Every single ROM I have flashed so far and none of them can connect to the mobile network :-( Mine is not a stolen phone or anything like that! I just want to set the IMEI on the box\under the battery on the phone to the one that shows up in my phone settings. The phone was working fine until I flashed the latest beta update of Paranoid Android!!

Any help on this would be fantastic!
