One of my lecturers referred to needing a b- grade in one of my subjects, but most of our results are given in percentages so I'm just wondering does anyone know what percentage a b- relates to?

Thinly veiled i done well thread :D
At 5% increments from 100% you got 70-75%

That's my opinion on how it works anyway.

Generally, B is in the range of 60-69.
So the lower end of a B- would be 60%.

    A B- is a grade awarded for a mark within the range 50 - 59 (this corresponds to a 2.2), while a B+ is within the range 60 - 69 (this corresponds to a 2.1) in NUI Galway.
If you Google 'Marks and Standards' for the particular College you are in, you'll find the most accurate information.
Alternatively, you should clarify the mark with the lecturer. The ranges above are standard across Colleges in the university.

    Is it not A 70-100
    B 60-70
    C 50-60
    D 40-50?

I didn't think we really did that B minus stuff, and initially thought the OP meant '-' as a hyphen..

Thats the breakdown i thought it was too. This was in an email, so maybe im reading it wrong, and the lecturer actually meant it as a hyphen, but i'm not sure. Although after christmas when we got our results, i was told one of mine was a c minus, so we must use them sometimes.

That should be it, yes. Some lecturers do the whole plus-minus thing, but it's not official or standardised in the university to the best of my knowledge. Maybe individual departments or somesuch.

    It depends on the Faculty

    Science is A 70-100, B 60-69, C+ 55-59, C- 50-54 etc
    Engineering is A 70-100, B 60-69, C 50-59, etc

    Not sure of other ones.
