i have being working in Dublin port the last couple of weeks and getting out of the city is a disaster a lot of the delay seams to be when i hit the Chapelizod bypass, The traffic seams to be held up by the pair of lights at palmerstown, so i was wondering would it be possible to have a freeflow interchange there and remove the lights which i would think help the traffic a lot, I know it would be a big project as space is an issue, you would probably have to CPO buildings and knock them to make it work. what does anyone think would they be in favour of such a project?

CPOing Vincent L Byrne and doing as was done at the Newcastle junction would probably be possible. And extremely expensive. Would also need to sort out the junction further down too. Its now an R road since the reclassification too so I can't see them being willing to spend that kind of cash.

Not going to happen. All new freeflow junctions are for National routes.

As the previous poster mentions, this is now an R road. Driving towards the quays is a bit silly anyway (i appreciate some do it out of necessity). A park and ride somewhere near Liffey Valley would surely make sense here.

    Welcome to traffic!

There have been day time road works causing backlogs on the Chapelizod Bypass, which no doubt take time to clear. the bypass is often very busy at rush hour anyway.

Not a whole lot of space to put interchanges on the Palmerston Bypass.

I'm aware of the policy on freeflowers within the M50, but I don't think this should apply to the N4. Work in Palmerstown and here in Ballyfermot is needed. The N4 is the only route apart from the M1 that provides an expressway into the city.

    here in Ballyfermot
I suspect those junctions are needed to provide a choke to manage traffic.

An inbound choke is required unfortunately but I do think it would make sense for an outbound only flyover. An outbound choke is not needed anything like as much... you could do something a-la Hogarth in London fairly cheaply.... maybe a little stronger than Hogarth looks though!

The M1 does not enter the city, it stops at j3 of the m50 in Turnapin (maybe it barely enters the city boundary, but really, this is not the city proper)
The m50 goes to Dublin port/east wall road

A park and ride at Liffey valley is great apart from the bus lanes on the route into/out of the city being too narrow for a bus to pass stopped traffic

Could someone please show me on Google maps where the 'Oval' is that I hear about on the traffic reports?

Alas no longer the case - although the road was reclassified over eighteen months ago, they have finally started changing the signage inside the M50 from N4 to R148 in the last few weeks.

Its timely this is being mentioned here - on Saturday afternoon it took me over an hour to drive from Kilmainham to Kennelsfort Road due to roadworks.

The Oval is the green space to the left of the first set of lights in Palmerstown heading out of town. Its part of the school.

Previous poster asked about CPOing the area. How about CPOing everywhere so he can fly in and out of work everyday. People live in these areas you know and have done for 50 years or so.

If you want to get to work quickly then get a job out in the sticks where ya live or else move closer to the city.

These are the people that most often pass through the junction and suffer most from the congestion.
