Anybody else think It's insane that Tom Dunne starts a late music show on newstalk next Monday night ? Only in Ireland would you get a late night talk show on a station called classic hits 4fm and a late night music show on a station called Newstalk.

    Has anybody told Davenport?

Just heard tonight.... Tom Dunne is on 9-11pm Mon-Thu from the week... Coleman is now on 9-11pm on Sundays... Mick Clifford (filling in for Coleman) announced it tonight on NooosTalk as he calls it.

    Has anybody told Davenport?

Told him he'll be busy filling in four nights a week, instead of just doing one?

A music show on a station in MONO and it's mono left!!!! It's hilarious every time they play the Beatles....... No vocals!

Being mono is bad enough, but mono left??

Technical standards there really are bad.

Well Radio One broadcasts in stereo, but Ronan Collins can hardly get either of the channels working half the time.

Newstalks audio is absolutely sh*te. Dull, flat, lifeless. Jump from radio 1 to NT and you can hear the difference.

i thought his show was meant to be more "hard news" than yet another music slot ?

newtalks played a blinder with their new line up for me, but if this is another music slot than RTE are getting me back for the late debate as i wont be listening.

and whats the story on a sunday show for coleman?

    i thought he left !

if theyre going to keep clifford the very least they can do is name the show after the guy as ive been really enjoying coleman at large now marcs got nothing to do with the show

    :D

Because we really need yet another station playing the latest hits from 1995.

I don't see the problem, they are well within there rights to play music and every music station has to fill a talk quota... if anything its good because they are mixing up the schedule a bit, only so much news you can report on.

    It's not going to be a music-driven show ...
The Tom Dunne Show is a nightly entertainment driven magazine show focusing on music, culture, movies, sex, sports, comedy, books, gossip and technology.

Tom will be joined by a host of regulars to pour over some of the off beat stories of the day, review the best reads and critique the best pieces to watch, all wrapped with the best in music choice.

The Tom Dunne show needs to feel like the party you wish you were at, the best tunes, the chatty banter, insightful reviews. We need to bring movies, books and culture to our audience that they might not find elsewhere.

Sounds like it's the Gerry Ryan show at night to me. 2FM could be intrigued enough to see how it goes and take him on and send Tubs back to Radio 1 (maybe)

Sounds like the Tom Dunne show, just at night. I always feel torn with old Tom. Seems like a nice fella, but i just couldn't listen to his morning show because it just seemed aimed at aul wans. Look, "gossip" is even listed above.

I think he's a real genuine nice guy who has an eclectic taste in music. He should just be allowed to introduce songs and maybe interview the odd musician on occasion (Like his quality Surfs Up Programme). Topics such as Sex  pulllease, Tom is too white picket fence for that.

Caught the second half of Tom's new show last night and enjoyed it.

There was a TV review with the inevitable references to Breaking Bad and Love Hate and some great music. (Although Dunne has always played decent music).

He was saying that nothing is set in stone on the show and they're going to let it evolve and see how it goes.

He's much better suited to late night radio than the mid morning slot he recently departed.

I'm looking forward to going back to Newstalk in the evenings now.

Anyone catch this last night? I listened to bits on the Newstalk app - not that interested in the music, segment with the TV reviewer wasn't great - thought George Byrne was a sidekick, this lady was a bit insipid....there was quite a bit of music so it all appeared a bit fragmented. Interested to hear other people's opinions - still early days and I'm sure (based on his tweets) that Tom Dunne isn't quite sure of the content yet.....

    two weeks in.......any thoughts ?

Music sounds awful on newstalk if listening on FM. I think they would be better off doing a current affairs show at that time of night because the late debate on RTE is only on 2 or 3 days per week.

I quite like it tbh, easy to listen to when making lunches for the next day.Much better then listening to that windbag Coleman and his annoying buddy anyway.

Heard Dunne's interview with Simon Delaney, who couldn't have sounded further up his own arse.

I must grudgingly admit as somebody who thought TD was dying on his arse with that daytime slot, the late night format suits him a lot better. Especially compared with some of the inane phone-ins going on in other stations at that time. I've enjoyed the mix of items. It's pretty non-confontational stuff, but maybe that's what's needed at that time of night.

I've listened the last few nights as well and I think it suits TD to be on night radio. Granted I never really heard the daytime show so never heard if it was that bad, but he's had some good pieces so far (e.g. Stuart Carolan and people talking about Phil Chevron).

I've listened to it the last couple of nights. Have to say I think he does a good job, nice and chilled out which is what you want at that time.

I think the balance is good, he used to be on at night few years ago.

I've listened in a few times recently and it's remarkable that a change in slot has really suited TD, He is much more at home at this time and the show has a nice balance.

First chance I've had to catch up with Tom Dunne and his lovely girly legs in this new slot, and so far I'm impressed.
