My 2007 Kia Carens 2.0crdi is showing up a P2112 Throttle Actuator Control stuck closed fault. I've been quoted approx. 600 euros to get the damned thing fixed by a main stealer. Does anyone know what this part is or can I get it second hand or by any other means? I'm having a bad week as this is the second car I have off the road in less than a week, my Renault Scenic blew the gearbox to scrap metal on Monday morning on the way to CUMH. The very heavily pregnant (and now overdue!!) Mrs Volvoman was far from impressed.....

Any help please as I'm trying to find my way back in to Mrs good books...

The throttle body on the intake manifold is what your after.

Personally, I'd try cleaning it first.

Sometimes oil residue / carbon can build up and cause the butterfly valve to stick.

    Is your engine 140bhp model?

What county is the car in?

600 euro does sound very excessive.

I doubt the dealer is going to fix, more likely just replace it with a new part. As 88manta said, try cleaning it first. You can get a can of carburateur cleaner in local motor factors/halfords, get an old toothbrush and give it a good scrub. Clean both sides of the butterfly valve.

You can be almost.guaranteed the dealer will replace and not clean

Sorry for the delay in replying, Mrs Volvoman have birth to a beautiful little girl on Sunday morning last so I've been a little busy.

I removed the throttle body myself and thoroughly cleaned, the mechanical action of the butterfly valve seems fine, I replaced it and turned off the check engine light. However, it lit again shortly after. The dealer replaced it with a new part and robbed me of 600 Euro to do so.. I also reported a squealing noise coming from the right hand side, thought it may have been a wheel bearing or the like so I asked them to look at that too. They have me the car back and said they could find no fault with it. Two days later, a new grumbling sound could be clearly heard. On further investigation, I discovered the front calipers on both sides were partly seized and suffering from uneven pad wear, while the rear brakes on the passenger side had a decent set of pads in, the driver side was down to the metal. This car had been serviced at the dealership where it was originally bought, no one else ever laid a spanner on it. It looks like one side had been changed but not the other. This is not the fault of the garage that did the job on the throttle body, they only recently took over the franchise but I am quite disappointed that these problems weren't detected in the inspection they carried out to diagnose the squealing noise.
