Hi everyone, I have to attend a work event in a Dublin pub tomorrow on Arthurs Day but I do not want to order a Diageo drink tomorrow. Can anyone tell me which drinks are not Diageo? I have been trying to find an answer to this from friends, colleagues, pub owners and Google! but no one seems to know the answer. Can anyone help me? Please! Thanks so much :-)

Sorry i would like to know why my thread was locked? I do not understand the site yet

it was locked because 'which drinks are not diageo' isn't a topic for discussion in the Conspiracy Theories forum.

You will be hard pushed to be able to get a drink in a pub on Arthur's day that is not diageo considering they get pubs to cover up taps of rivals.

you'll be fine with wine or soft drinks though.

Hi Marie Theresa, you posted your question in the wrong forum. I've posted your original question and altered the title of this thread.

Is there a particular reason you have to avoid Diageo drinks?

Which pub are you going to?

In Ireland the likely Diageo beer products you'll meet are Bud, Guinness, Smithwicks, Carlsberg, Harp and Satzenbrau. Then you've the likes of Baileys, Smirnoff, Captain Morgans, Gordon's Gin and Bushmills

There's a list here but it doesn't include products Diageo make under license (e.g. Bud).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diageo#Products

If you're lucky you'll find a nice craft beer available. Diageo pay pubs to cover up other companies taps on their marketing day but if you ask for craft beer you should still be able to get it.

It's easier to say the ones which are Diageo:
Beer: Guinness, Smithwick's, Carlsberg, Budweiser, Kilkenny, Harp, Macardle's, Satzenbrau
Spirits: Bushmills, Smirnoff, Captain Morgan, Gordon's, Tanqueray
    you'll be fine with wine
Not if it's Blossom Hill or Piat D'Or ;)

Maybe also tell us what type of drink you prefer & maybe someone can suggest a non-Diageo brand.

    A - which pub?

B - what do you normally like to drink?

I don't think they have anything to do with those anymore. Gilbeys wines was sold off to gleesons a good while back. Gleesons were recently bought out by C&C.

That's just the Irish importer, though, right? The wine is still made abroad by a Diageo subsidiary AFAIK.

Beamish. And it actually tastes a lot nicer than Guinness!

What about Bulmers? Isn't that C&C?

I'd find it very hard to tell between the two.

Thank you everyone! I must admit I am still slightly confused so I may just order tap water tomorrow! I do have a massive reason for not ordering diageo tomorrow but I do not want to discuss it here and now. It will come out in the media in the near future. Many thanks again. Great website!

    Slan!

Should I sell my Diageo shares?

Mmmmm poster with new account, asks leading question about Diageo products from a negative stand. This the day before Arthur's Day. Me smells a guerrilla in the mists.

So, is anyone else worried about drinking a pint of Guinness or any other Diageo product today specifically?

In hindsight, this thread was more suitable to Conspiracy Theories.

Maybe they've added cocaine to get everyone addicted to Guinness so they don't switch back to their usual drink?

Or raisins? Could have raisins in it.

My understanding is that any pub that is partaking in ' Authurs day ' basically cannot serve non Diageo products , so the Hieno pumps will be switched off.

Diago basically hires the pub , books the music etc ( they are very careful not to even inform the venue who is playing ).

Of course I am open to correction

It happens with some pubs, usually depending on how many free kegs/music the pub has been provided.

Although to be fair, Heineken do it too. I was in a pub for their "stout fest" in Cork and they weren't selling any Diageo pints.

Yep I know a guy who works for a largish music venue/pub in Dublin. He would usually see the paperwork for bands etc , everything for Diageo day was basically hidden from him .

The first of those days , they actually sold about 1 months worth of Guinness and ran out !

Great money spinner he reckons .

The Irish bar I am near here in the US are doing a special for Octoberfest.

Both Hofbrau Oktoberfestbier and Hofbrau Munich Weize are on draught today.
Also Hacker-Pschorr has been added too.

No mention of Arthurs day here.

That's cuz Americans don't have as much culture as d'Irish (you'll never beat them), nothing says culture like drinking til you puke coz Diageo asked you to.

I love a good aul Conspiracy Theory. Maybe tomorrow the OP will release information that proves that Guinness really is 50/50 Black Sheep and River Liffey water and in the meantime we all need to buy shares in Beamish.

That would be heiniken, and it probably won't be made, at all, in the near future.
Unless another brewery buys it from heiniken.

I think I'll genuinely cry if they stop making it. :(

OP is suing Diageo, thinks they're the first and will make headlines. OP is wrong.
