I've just bought a set of these wheels.

I've wasted the last two hours trying to fit a tyre to one of these things but to no avail. It just won't go on no matter how I try to manipulate it. I never had any issues with my old wheels.

My thumb is now blistered and I feel like taking a sledge hammer to the wheels and teaching them a lesson.

Anyone have any experience fitting a tyre with this wheel set? - I'm trying to avoid the humiliation of admitting defeat and bringing it to the local shop.

Are you using tyre levers? Try using a spoon too.

Which tyre, and is it a new one. I've found new puncture resistant tyres like the Durano Plus can be a bit of a bugger to get on first time, taking all three levers.

Might be worth including the tyre you're trying to fit too, as some combinations of tyre and rim are particularly tricky. I have no experience of the Khamsins myself, but had awful trouble with a wire beaded gatorskin on a Mavic Aksium at one point, and have seen issues with some Vittorias on the same wheel.

I have these wheels and fitted a variety of tyres with no issues. One tip that worked for me is to get the tyre on as best you can, the go around and pinch the walls of the tyres in to free up those for millimeters needed to squeeze it on. If it's still tight, try a bit of washing up liquid to help the last bit on over the rim.

Presumably, you have managed to get one side of the tyre onto the rim and are now struggling to get the other side on. Correct?

When fitting the second bead, push the portion of the bead that you have already managed to fit towards the centre of the rim, since this will generally have a smaller effective radius, thereby creating more slack on the remaining portion.

Smear the tyre bead with some washing up liquid. A little lubrication can help a lot.

Also, have you tried using tyre levers? They can be just as handy for fitting (tight) tyres as they are for removing them. Careful not to pinch your tube. It can help to inflate the tube just enough to give it some shape, as this helps it sit into the tyre properly.

Run over the 'problem area' with a hairdryer, makes the rubber a little more flexible for that last stubborn bit

If u cant get the tyre on...imagine trying to get that tyre Off to replace a tube on a cold, wet training spin or on your daily commute?

    Try a different tyre

That thought has crossed my mind.

The tyre I'm trying to fit is Continental Grand Prix.

I con't recommend any tyres to you as I use Conti GP2000 and they go on/off my wheels (Mavic and Fast Forward) by hand (Don't need tyre levers).

I'd bring the wheel into your LBS and try a few different brands. Whichever goes on easiest..buy two of them.
