SpEl - Spring expression language - why?

I'm learning about this at the moment and I'm a bit puzzled.

One of the main reasons for Spring is to simplify, decouple and make classes testable. If you then go and put a pile of logic into an xml file using this language - how do you test this? Are you not just moving/recreating/hiding the problem?

Opinions please.

Don't put a pile of logic into an XML file!

Here is an example of where the SpEL is useful:

<bean id="taxCalculator" class="org.spring.samples.TaxCalculator">
    <property name="defaultLocale" value="#{ systemProperties['user.region'] }"/>

    <!-- other properties -->
</bean>
