CSS calculation question

    Hi

Quick question on competitions. In calculating the CSS for a competition, all category 4 golfers (category 5 for women) are disgarded. Does this mean that if all golfers in a men's comp were from category 4, then the competition will not be a qualifying one?

The reason I ask is a girl I know won a competition at the weekend. However, there was only one category 4 player in it and all the rest were category 5. Will she get cut? She was 5 shots better than the CSS as it is on golfnet now. (away comp, so have to wait for home club to process)
I would have said yes, but a few weeks ago, she won a qualifying comp, was a shot better than the CSS and did not get cut. The only reason I can think of is because there is a minimum requirement for players outside the disgarded category, there was only one that time too.

My understanding of CSS Calculation is the scores of Category 5 ladies are not included in the CSS calculation.
However I would be surprised if a field of only Category 5 players would render a competition non qualifying.
In this instance i would think the CSS would default to SSS. Which it tends to do when there is a small number of players (less than 10) for any competition.

    See below extract from CONGU

    2. Small Fields
A new table has been introduced for fields of less than 10 players in Categories 1 – 3 {4] as the CSS is greatly influenced by a single player due to the small number of players. It is expected that this will apply, in the main, to ladies’ competitions. If no score is returned within eligible Buffer Zone the next best score will be evaluated and the new Table B used. Statistics show that this should reduce the number of Reduction Only Competitions. The minimum CSS for fields of 5 or fewer will continue to be SSS as now.
